The basic duties of a janitor include cleaning the exteriors and interiors of hospitals, schools, as well as residential accommodations. Some of them can also do electrical repairs and minor plumbing jobs. Education, certification, and training to become a janitor

No formal training is required to become a janitor but to perform other tasks like repair works etc. it can be helpful if he has attended a few classes in a high school. Most of the beginners can get training while working with experienced janitors.

On-the-job training allows them to learn the ways to operate floor buffering and wet-dry vacuuming machines as well as minor electrical repairs and plumbing services. All these things can make a janitor a competent person to perform all of his duties and take care of his responsibilities.

Most janitors work with companies providing janitorial services to schools, hospitals, offices, and even residential buildings. Usually, janitors have to work indoors but some of them have to be exposed to extreme weather conditions including cold, hot, and stormy climates while working in outdoor locations.

The main drawback of the occupation of a janitor is to work in different weather conditions. Another downside of this job is physical and mental stress as many times it is considered a dirty job.

It is also considered a tiring job as you may have to stand throughout the day and lift heavy items. The risk of workplace injuries like bruises, cuts, and burns is more likely for janitors than the workers on other jobs.

The work schedule for janitors

The work schedule for most of the janitors is full-time but many of them are also seen doing part-time jobs. They also have to work on weekends and in the evenings, late night or early morning so that the building can be cleaned thoroughly in the absence of people using it.

You will have to seek the job of janitor in a school or hospital if you prefer to work in day-shift only.
